Audit Goals
The energy audit was conducted with the goal of reducing utility expenses and carbon emissions for the Williston Town Hall.
Structure
1860 two story brick Greek Revival. Renovated in 1988 with 6010 square feet of office and meeting space.
State Grant
The Town of Williston recieved a $12,000 State grant through the Vermont Community Climate Change Program.

Major Findings

  • Eliminate leaking ductwork in the unconditioned attic space
  • Re-insulate and air seal the attic to reduce fuel consumption by 20%
  • Replace the aging air conditioners with very efficient ductless mini-split systems.
  • Replace inefficient T-12 lighting with HPT-8s and add sensors and controls to cut electricity costs by 50%.
  • Pursue intermediate and long term fuel reduction strategies by installing a new fuel efficient boiler. Achieve 16% savings on fuel costs.
  • Install a 15 Kw solar photovoltaic power system to provide 70% of the electrical usage after other recommended efficiency measures. The system is projected to pay for itself in 11 years at the current cost of electricity.
  • In the future, install a gasification (clean burning) wood pellet boiler to heat the Town Hall and adjacent buildings.

Outcome

The Buidling Energy audit report was so comprehensive, that the Town of Williston was able to submit the audit report and win an energy grant for $12,000 to specifically fund energy efficiency projects.
