• Built in 2004

• 1,731 square feet of heated space including basement.

• Radiant slab in basement, radiant first floor, radiators second floor.

• Band sill insulated with fiberglass.

• No insulation in first floor joists over radiant heat tubes/panels.

• Bulkhead door with no door in concrete rough opening.

• No attic access.

Energy Efficiency Measures Installed

• Removed fiberglass in band sill and installed 3" closed cell foam.

• Framed bulkhead rough opening and installed insulated metal door.

• Installed fiberglass insulation in floor joists to improve distribution of radiant heat system.

• Other air sealing measures such as window trim, light fixtures in second floor ceiling, and basement windows.

Results

• 41% reduction in air leakage.

• Estimated 22% reduction in heating energy savings.

• Radiant heat system will have better distribution.

• Basement will be warmer during the heating season.
